Like conference centres, hotels and club premises, churches need a variety of signs. These church signs can be used, among other things, to show opening hours, highlight forthcoming events and label toilets and other rooms. Nowadays, churches are also often hired out for conferences, weddings and concerts. If this is the case, you should pay particular attention to using signs that provide information for visitors who do not otherwise visit the church.

Start designing your signWhat signs a church needs is very individual. A lot depends on the age of the church and the events organised on the church premises. Signs both outside and inside the church may be required.
Office, cleaning store and toilet are some of the rooms that can be labelled with small signs. Information such as “Please turn off your mobile phone” is also often found at the entrance to the church.
Particularly on older churches, which are popular tourist destinations, there is usually a sign by the entrance indicating the church’s opening hours. For more modern churches, it is more common to highlight events during which the church is open at the entrance.
Sometimes church signs feature a special message aimed as passers-by. These signs not only convey the church’s opening hours or events but also, for example, may have a political or humorous angle. One example is the sign from Goodwood United Church, which at one time had the message “Free Coffee, Everlasting Life – Membership has its privileges”.
